SMYSP Stanford Medical Youth Science Program

UC San Francisco

UC San Francisco is based in the heart of bustling San Francisco in Northern California. It is centered around a large, prestigious teaching hospital and also sponsors various dentist offices and health clinics throughout the city. The campus is located near Golden Gate Park, which provides a scenic retreat from the busy city atmosphere. The school is located within a few hours' drive from Lake Tahoe and the Monterey Bay.

Academics/Health Opportunities

UCSF does not provide any academic programs for undergraduates. Rather, it specializes in graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy and dental hygiene. It also offers various master's and PhD degree programs in the health sciences and related social and behavioral sciences.

The schools of dentistry, medicine and pharmacy at UCSF will admit qualified undergraduates who have completed the required college classes. However, the majority of medical and dental students who are admitted to UCSF's medical and dental schools have already graduated from college. The program in dental hygiene is open only to qualified undergraduates who have completed at least two years of preparatory college work. The school of nursing is open only to college graduates.

The UCSF campus features two acute-care training hospitals, a psychiatric institute, one of the largest outpatient medical clinics in the state and numerous research laboratories. Students also work and receive instruction and training from local hospitals, including San Francisco General Hospital, San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center and Mt. Zion Medical Center.
